How do you get your Kenmore washer to drain? Tired of checking what is the problem with your washer? What is the simplest way to fix the washer? This post might help you to solve your problems.
A washing machine is basically a big tub that repeatedly fills with water and then drains, spins to wring clothes dry, and has a device for stirring the contents up—either an agitator in the middle of a top-load machine or a rolling drum in a front-loading machine.
We all know that The Kenmore 70 series are washers and dryers from one of the biggest appliance manufacturers. They include a top-loading unit and large-capacity drums.
Although Kenmore does not manufacture Kenmore Series 70 anymore, you can still buy the washer and the replacement parts from third-party vendors.
There are might common problems every time our washer cannot do the task that they intended to. There might be the best way on how to easily determine the problem of our washer.
If your washer is not draining, the first thing you need to do is to see if you can locate the problem before contacting Kenmore. This saves your money on out-of-warranty repair fees.
Locate the Problem
The first area to look at is the circuit breaker. If it has tripped, reset it and unplug the washer.
Plug it back in and see if it will spin now with the lid closed because the thing about Kenmore 70 series washers is that they will not enter the spin cycle until the lid is closed properly.
The Kenmore Series 70 has a neutral drain feature. They drain the tub before they start spinning, so make sure the dial is in the spin cycle.
If necessary, use a cycle with a higher spin speed. Don’t use too much detergent, as this can cause excessive suds in which can prevent your washer from draining.
Do not use an extension cord as the primary socket of the washer, because using an extension cord or an adapter may also be the reason your Kenmore 70 series won’t drain. The reason behind this is the washer will not get adequate power.
Try connecting the washer directly to the power socket in the wall. Contact also an electrician if your home is not getting enough electrical voltage.
Still not working?
If none of the above solutions fix the problem, there are very important things you will have to check.
Coin Trap
Some models have coin traps which are normally located near the water pump behind the washer’s access panel. It traps small items that fall down the drain, so if your washer won’t drain, the coin trap may be blocked/clogged and it should be fairly easy to clean out.
If this doesn’t correct the problem, you might need to work the lid switch after removing it from the unit.
Lid Switch
If the lid switch is broken (mechanically or electrically), the spin cycle will not run, leaving water in the tub and clothes soaked.
How to check Lid Switch?
Un-plug again the washer and find the screws holding the switch housing to the frame. The lid switch is located inside your washer near the door frame.
Carefully remove and clean any debris that has built up. Work the switch back and forth a few times and plug the unit back in. Set the dial to spin and actuate the switch.
Just ensure you disconnect the power while unscrewing and re-screwing the lid switch back in. Test the switch for continuity and replace it if necessary.
Drive Belt
The drive belt is a long band that connects the drive motor pulley to the transmission drive pulley. The motor moves the belt and the belt turns the transmission pulley for the agitation and spin cycles.
The belt may become loose on pulleys, which makes it hard for the tub to spin. If you can see that the belt is worn, replace it.
Drive Motor
If the motor is not running, the pump will not work. Most washing machines use a reversible motor and it is possible for the machine to agitate and not spin or drain.
Drain Pump and Hoses
The water pump is a plastic part connected to two hoses located at bottom of the washer. The pump is responsible for removing water from the tub.
How to check the water pump and hoses?
First, it is located underneath the spray arm and lower rack. Examine the pump and see if any dirt is clogging the pump.
If not, check it for broken components. If water is not draining from the tub, the drain pump may need to be replaced.
You must replace the pump if it has broken components since it’s difficult to repair. Check to make sure the drain hoses are not kinked. Small clothing can get stuck in the drain hose or attached to the drain pump.
If this is the case, you will need to remove the hoses from the pump to clear them out. The internal impeller in the drain pump can also break and can be replaced.
Replace the hose if it’s crushed. The drain hose must not extend more than 4 inches into the tub. Remove the excess hose.
